Our "First Growth-1855" Visit

We visited Haut Brion today.  Sherry is getting the official post together.  Yes, we did sample 2007 Haut Brion.

One thing of interest is that Chateau Haut-Brion is located inside the city limits of Pessac, a suburb of Bordeaux.  The tour guide told us that until the 1960's the Chateau and its vineyards were in "the country."  However, growth in Pessac and Bordeaux has resulted in the entire operation, including vineyards, being surrounded by neighborhoods.

I asked about vehicle and other pollutants that could impact the vines and was told that a study was done vs. other more rural vineyards and it was found that Haut-Brion was about the same as all others.  Apparently the grapes have a natural disposal system for pollutants.
