Another interesting experience today....what I thought was allergies in Texas was actually the beginning of a sinus infection. The plane landing into Paris was completely painful and it has become more uncomfortable since then. (Nothing the wonderful French wine could fix) As of last night, I had completely lost hearing in my left ear, so this morning we had to find a local doctor. (Side note: Regardless of your expertise in the French language, the inability to hear makes conversations WAY more challenging!)
Why isn't healthcare in the US like here???? No paperwork to fill out, no ID, no insurance, if your appointment is at 3:15, you better be there on time! Pay in cash at the end of your appointment and leave with a handful of prescriptions. The pharmacy was another experience....no english of course. All in all, not a bad experience....dr visit, diagnosis and drugs in less than 45 minutes! If I were in the US, I would have still been in the waiting room......let's hope for a full recovery so we can continue our adventure!
Your experience with the French healthcare system is just one of the many reasons that, in 2008, International Living voted France the best place in the world to retire. The man from Dijon obviously agrees. Livin' the dream, guys.
