An Afternoon in St Emilion

Well the chateau is quiet with all of our company continuing their vacations or returning to the US. So we decided to enjoy the sunshine and spend the afternoon in St Emilion. We took advantage of the Saint Emilion Petit Train, the tourist train that circles the city and provides information on all the surrounding vineyards. Honestly it was quite relaxing to sit and enjoy the countryside and vineyard views. They offered quite a bit of information on the wineries but it was more fun to relax and people watch everyone coming out of their tours at the vineyards as we chugged by on our 'train.'

Love an opportunity for a family photo

Taking a break from all the steep walkways in this town

We found the cutest garden restaurant in Saint Emilion where we all enjoyed the people watching. This restaurant seemed to be a favorite with the local wine guides as there were quite a few wine tour guides speaking in all languages. Apparently part of their package deal is to take their clients out for lunch and ordering the most expensive St Emilion wines to enjoy for each course and then leave the clients to pick up the tab while the guide 'checks the next stop.' Seems like a great job to me! Genius! No fancy tour guides for us, we did just fine on our own. It was a lovely, peaceful day in Saint Emilion

Time for lunch

All the walkways in St Emilion were this steep and this photo doesn't even do it justice.

After an enjoyable day in St Emilion, we headed back home to the chateau by way of the neighboring pizza truck. We spent the evening enjoying our St Emilion purchases from the wine stores with our pizza from the local pizza truck.
